What is the core premise of Watch Dogs?

Watch Dogs is an open-world action-adventure series where players control skilled hackers who can manipulate a city's central operating system (ctOS) to combat corruption, crime, and surveillance.

Aiden Pearce is the protagonist of the first game, a brilliant but morally gray hacker and vigilante seeking revenge for the death of his niece, Lena, in Chicago.

The Central Operating System (ctOS) is a fictional supercomputer network developed by the Blume Corporation that manages a city's entire infrastructure and surveillance grid, often at the cost of citizen privacy.

DedSec is a global, decentralized collective of hacktivists who fight against the abuse of technology, corporate corruption, and the mass surveillance enabled by systems like ctOS.

Do I need to play the games in order?

Not necessarily. While they share a universe and some characters (like Aiden Pearce appearing in later games), each entry features a standalone story, new protagonist, and distinct setting.

How does the 'Play As Anyone' feature work in Watch Dogs: Legion?

Legion allows players to recruit and control literally any NPC in the open world. Each character has unique skills, backstories, and schedules, and if they die with permadeath enabled, they are gone forever.

Is Watch Dogs connected to Assassin's Creed?

Ubisoft has included numerous easter eggs suggesting a shared universe (e.g., Aiden Pearce killing an Abstergo CEO), though developers often describe these as fun nods rather than strict canon connections.

What makes the hacking gameplay unique?

Unlike traditional shooters, players can manipulate the environment—changing traffic lights to cause accidents, overloading steampipes, disabling security cameras, or draining bank accounts—to solve problems creatively.

What are the main settings of the games?

Watch Dogs is set in Chicago, Watch Dogs 2 in the San Francisco Bay Area, and Watch Dogs: Legion in a near-future, dystopian London.

Is there multiplayer?

Yes, the series features various multiplayer modes, including seamless invasions where players can hack into another player's game, co-op missions, and competitive modes.
