Is Moana based on a true story?

While Moana herself is a fictional character, the film is deeply rooted in Polynesian mythology and culture. The story incorporates real legends, such as the demigod Maui, and reflects the true history of Polynesian wayfinders who explored the Pacific Ocean thousands of years ago.

What does the name 'Moana' mean?

In many Polynesian languages, including Maori and Hawaiian, 'Moana' means 'ocean' or 'deep sea', which perfectly fits the character's connection to the sea.

Who voices Moana and Maui?

Moana is voiced by Auli'i Cravalho, a Native Hawaiian actress who was 14 when she was cast. Maui is voiced by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who is of Samoan heritage.

Will there be a Moana 2?

Yes, Disney has announced 'Moana 2', a feature-length sequel scheduled for theatrical release in November 2024. It will take audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.

Te Fiti is a fictional goddess in the film who has the power to create life. She transforms into the lava demon Te Kā after her heart is stolen by Maui, representing the destructive power of nature when balance is lost.

What are the Kakamora?

The Kakamora are a tribe of pirate-like creatures that appear as small, coconut-armored warriors. While they are antagonists in the film, they are based on legendary creatures from the mythology of the Solomon Islands.
