Quirrel was the apprentice of Monomon the Teacher. To protect the seal on the Black Egg, Monomon entrusted her mask to Quirrel and sent him away from Hallownest to prevent the mask from being used to break the seal. He lost his memory upon leaving the kingdom but was drawn back, aging rapidly once the protection of the mask was removed.
