What is the main story of Cyberpunk 2077?

The game follows V, a mercenary in Night City who participates in a high-stakes heist to steal a mysterious biochip from the Arasaka Corporation. The heist goes wrong, and to save the chip, V inserts it into their own head. The chip contains the digital soul (engram) of legendary rockerboy-terrorist Johnny Silverhand. The main conflict revolves around V trying to find a way to remove the chip before it overwrites their mind and kills them, all while dealing with the corrupt corporations and gangs of Night City.

Has Cyberpunk 2077 been fixed since its launch?

Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone a massive transformation since its rocky 2020 launch. CD Projekt Red released numerous patches (especially the 2.0 update) that fixed bugs, overhauled the police system, improved AI, added vehicle combat, and redesigned the perk/skill trees. The game is now widely considered to be in a polished, excellent state and has received 'Very Positive' recent reviews on Steam.

What is the Phantom Liberty expansion?

Phantom Liberty is the first and only major story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. It introduces a new district called Dogtown, a spy-thriller storyline, and new characters like Solomon Reed (played by Idris Elba). It runs alongside the main game and adds a new potential ending to V's story. It also introduced a new Relic skill tree and increased the level cap.

Who is Johnny Silverhand?

Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, is a central character in the game. He was a famous rockerboy (leader of the band Samurai) and anti-corporate terrorist who died in 2023 after nuking Arasaka Tower. In 2077, his consciousness is stored on the biochip in V's head. He acts as a narrator, companion, and sometimes antagonist, sharing a body and mind with V.

How does character creation and 'Lifepaths' work?

At the start of the game, players create their version of V and choose one of three 'Lifepaths': Nomad (growing up in the badlands outside the city), Street Kid (growing up on the streets of Heywood), or Corpo (working as a counter-intelligence agent for Arasaka). This choice determines the game's prologue (the first hour) and unlocks unique dialogue options throughout the game based on V's background knowledge.

Can you play Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person view?

No, Cyberpunk 2077 is strictly a first-person RPG (except for driving vehicles). The developers chose first-person perspective to maximize immersion in the dense, vertical city of Night City and to enhance the impact of narrative moments. While there are unofficial mods on PC that attempt to add third-person, it is not supported by the developers.

What kind of gameplay does Cyberpunk 2077 offer?

It is an Action RPG that offers great freedom in playstyle. You can play as a 'Solo' (focusing on guns, melee weapons like katanas or Gorilla Arms, and durability), a 'Netrunner' (using hacking to distract, damage, or control enemies from a distance), or a 'Techie' (focusing on crafting and tech weapons). The game features driving, stealth, dialogue choices, and open-world exploration.

Is the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime connected to the game?

Yes, the anime 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' by Studio Trigger is set in the same universe and timeline (about a year before the game events). It features exact locations, weapons, and slang from the game. The game received an update adding content referencing the anime, such as David Martinez's jacket and a dedicated side quest.

Does the game have multiple endings?

Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 has several different endings based on the choices you make throughout the game and specifically during the final mission. These include the 'Sun' ending, 'Star' ending, 'Temperance' ending, 'Devil' ending, and a new ending added in Phantom Liberty. There is also a secret ending that requires specific relationship status with Johnny.

What makes Night City special?

Night City is widely praised as one of the most detailed and atmospheric open worlds ever created. It is a dense, vertical megalopolis divided into six unique districts (plus the Badlands and Dogtown). The city features distinct architecture, fashion, slang, and gang cultures for each area. The environmental storytelling—advertisements, news broadcasts, and overheard conversations—creates a deeply immersive dystopian setting.
